South West Rail Upgrades

In early 2009, Brookfield Rail completed the $120 million concrete resleepering project to upgrade the South West Main between Kwinana and Bunbury. The project, financed entirely by Brookfield Rail, means the entire length of the Kwinana to Bunbury railway is concrete sleepered and capable of carrying up to 25 tonne axle loads. The project has ensured that this critical piece of infrastructure continues to service major industry, and the passenger rail services which support the regional communities along the length of the line.

Additional rail infrastructure capacity enhancements and upgrades are planned in the next couple of years to support the expansion of Worsley Alumina and the new Perdaman Chemicals & Fertiliser export urea task.
